The Auckland Blues Music Club was first established in 2007 and although several name and management changes have occurred over the years, it has continued to stand the test of time and maintain its status as Auckland’s most prominent host of blues music events.

The club has recently decided to run many of its events out of The Thirsty Dog Tavern on Karangahape Road, giving a base for members to call their own. Over the coming months, there will be several additions to the agenda including an acoustic jam on Mondays which will complement the electric jams run on Thursday nights. Sunday late afternoons through winter will see roast dinners on the menu along with some relaxed live music to enhance the afternoon.
Another recent decision is to broaden the musical genres of the club to include all music loosely connected to the blues and we welcome musicians playing the likes of country blues, blues rock, soul, R&B, honky-tonk blues, swamp blues, swing jump etc.  This will give the club more scope to diversify and add more flavour to the gigs we host.

In the future, we intend to hold competitions including harmonica, blues guitar and singer/songwriter.  These will be run in conjunction with the Thirsty Dog and will be judged by local luminaries in the field. Prizes will range from musical instruments to recording time according to the competition. Dates for the commencement of these competitions will be advertised on the website and FB and also in the monthly newsletter with details on how to enter.

When possible, we take advantage of visiting overseas artists and book them to play an additional gig for the club and from time to time we also arrange our own gigs for overseas artists.  These events will be held at The Thirsty Dog unless we are expecting a larger crowd in which case the change of venue will be well advertised on the website, Facebook and the newsletter.
